righting a wrong

It has been brought to my attention that what was shown on this here post was not accurate. It seems someone knocked the composition while cleaning (which clearly rules me out, then) and it should have looked like this: the Pedrera perfectly perched atop the Sagrada Familia.

But of course. How very silly of me.
All right, now it's when I think I can hear Gaudí turning in his grave.

(this time I'm showing you what) I hate...

This week's (belated) whimper is actually a visual illustration of last week's a-ranting & a-moaning. Situation still the same and swearing still happening daily on my cycle to work and back! :)

make way, pushing through (with a passion)!

Oh well, it appears I needn't have feared about premature bulb activity in the balcony! As it happens, it is not only fine, but actually "of course it is the time it should be happening blah, blah, blah, how silly of you, woman, blah blah blah..."

However, the white-haired red-faced beret-sporting man that sold them to me at the market, back in November, clearly said early to mid spring. I scribbled all info down on the little crumpled brown bags I put the dry and shrivelled mini bulbs in (three different sorts of lump, three different bags) and they were all supposed to bloom from early to mid spring.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's still bloody cold and spring officially starts on 21st March,
aiiii? Well, then!!!

This was taken about ten days ago, on a rainy and gloomy day but they, all the same, kept stubbornly pushing through. The below were taken just about 40 mins ago.

I suspect I may have gone a bit wild an ambitious with the three layers of bulbs at three different depths idea and all... Now I'm not any longer afraid they're going to freeze and die; I'm more concerned about the cram-full pot and a possible survival-of-the-fittest-green-massacre-situation!

Sometimes you just can't win, can you?

addendum, erratum or corrigendum

This is an addendum to the first instalment of a-ranting & a-moaning, the newly-born series, comprising just the one (1!!!) statement, which I already have to retract. Boo hoo!

When boy read the post about me hating roundabouts, he insisted there was one I wouldn't hate. He then proceeded to show me it and I had to admit he was spot on! Dank je! :)

So, basically, I still hate most roundabouts; probably all of them except this one:

knowing one's onions...?

I'm re-visiting the title of a previous post even though, apart from the pungent edible bulbs in question, both posts have pretty little in common.

Right, setting: pub, Friday after work with a few colleagues. A few snacks to go with the drinks were ordered. One of the favoured nibbles was cheese, which
generally gets served accompanied by a generous dollop of strong mustard to dip in. This time it also came with a complementary side-kick of pickled onions (or silver uitjes), which are normally bite-size. These were huge!

Please see images depicting fingers of volunteers to demonstrate hugeness of said onion (the photos were taken with my mobile phone and are, therefore
, somewhat lacking in quality... but come to think of it, not much worse than some others I've shown here before, actually!).

Later on, a second plate of cheese was ordered and, to the delight and amusement of those present,
one of the pickled onions was even bigger than those of the previous batch. The last picture is just me, the technical wiz (not!) discovering silly options of the camera phone.

Moral of the story: Contrary to what I had stated here before, I do not seem to know my onions.
