say cabrales...

Pretty, isn't it? And random, indeed.
I was looking for an English description of requesón
(I know, I know... domestic what? Nigella tremble!) for this lady here when I came across this fa-bu-lous poster. The thing is I've seen it before (or a similar version) at Barcelona airport, hanging at one of the delicatessen shops. But not only that, every single time I walk by it I ponder (with myself) how wonderfully cheesy it would be to have one on the kitchen wall and make a mental note to look it up!
And now... look at that! You wish for and, hey presto, the Internets provide
! :)

Here's where the map lives. I have simply taken a bit of it (it said you could there, anyway) and the boy has twisted, turned, converted and chopped it for me 'cos, much as I would like to know how, I have to admit I have NO bloody clue how to convert a huge and heavy pdf file into an uploadable image.
I-will-learn! (A ninja never surrenders!)

the unsheltering sky

This happened in the space of about 5 minutes... boo hoo!!

Friday, 20 February 2009

oh yeah, and pepe the builder...

...has just gotten over his digital face and gone 4x4!!!

"Can we climb it?"
"Yes, we can!"

birds of a "leather"...

The images above, one illustrating a ban on smooching at a railway station in the U.K. and the other warning about... a bird with a rubber fetish (!), have been taken from this repertoire, which is going straight into my favourites. A whole series dedicated to signs ranging from funny to weird to, sometimes, venturing into the blatantly idiotic. By origin, some of them could have been shown (and perhaps are) here, another ninja fave.

However, it reminded me of one of the many and varied reasons
why I started this "cajón de sastre": to post/share/publish stuff I probably wouldn't otherwise. So, high time to stick some of the silly pics I've been taking over the years. I just had a quick browse at my collection and decided upon the below, taken in Barcelona outside a bar. Just ace.
I fear non-Spanish speakers may miss the undertone, but hey! It basically reads "No touching or pulling up the plants or I'll cut your hands off". Yup, just like that!

I love a good random sign, me (and, apparently, I'm not alone)!

make way, "pushing" through!

I planted these babies at the very end of November (apparently also "pushing" it well into the dangerous time for planting). It's the first time I've ever engaged in this potty business in my attempt to pimp the balcony a bit. There's three layers of them (three different sorts of bulb) in a big pot, at different depths and I was promised they'd all come out at different times and different heights during spring... SPRING!!!

It's February in the North of Europe.
Is this supposed to already be happening?
Did I, by any chance, get the "advanced" sort of bulb?

Are they going to freeze and die before spring? (I'd like to kindly refer you to el drama de la margarita earlier this winter!)

What am I supposed to do?
Anyone?

Help!

I don't think I can take another death in the balcony this year!

addendum, erratum or corrigendum

This is an addendum to the first instalment of a-ranting & a-moaning, the newly-born series, comprising just the one (1!!!) statement, which I already have to retract. Boo hoo!

When boy read the post about me hating roundabouts, he insisted there was one I wouldn't hate. He then proceeded to show me it and I had to admit he was spot on! Dank je! :)

So, basically, I still hate most roundabouts; probably all of them except this one:

from my kitchen to yours

Rubbish as I am at this sort of things sometimes, I forgot to wish a colleague good luck before she went to hospital. The day after, when I realised it was d-day (appropriate, right?) and that I wouldn't see her for a bit, I decided I'd send her a text. Later I thought she'd probably be totally spaced-out (yes, I think too much) and didn't want her to feel obliged to reply.

Incidentally, she had joked I had to blog daily for her entertainment during her home-bound recovery (no pressure, like!) so it struck me that the best way to say "Ciao girlie, I hope (I'm sure) it all went well" would be a silly post.

So there: a silly post featuring a random
still life; from my kitchen to yours! I'd actually been wanting to test whether a picture taken from a particular angle could make the simple reality of, say, the dishes after breakfast look good. I think it kind of does, washing-up liquid bubbles and all. From gritty to quasi-pretty!

Hugs dear, I hope you're on the mend! x

Oh yeah, should you be a V-day fan (I'm not), I've just realised you can always imagine those scissors are a heart of sorts and, hey presto, here's your theme post of the day! ;)

so, basically, following his advice by nicking his quote...

I'm not planning on making this an inspiration blog (I reckon that's bloody obvious though! Who would be able to draw inspiration from a crappy video -resolution too low, sound too high- of me playing with lip gloss in a café on a Sunday afternoon?)

However I loved this quote I read at noquedanblogs the other day (as I love most Jim Jarmuschisms, in all their different forms) and decided to share it with whoever reads this. Does anyone read this? I believe someone does. Do you believe? "If you believe, clap your hands; don't let Tink die".

vaseline ready? and... we're rolling

(Which reads much more promising than it actually is. Just testing responses to tabloid headline style.)

Very random vid, which was supposed to be brilliant (in its own simplicity and perfection). However, sometimes you just cannot recreate certain moments once they've already happened naturally, can you? Learning something new every day that goes by. Getting there, getting there...

ei? that just takes the bacon!

Pssst pssst... follow me here!

How funny is that? I bet everyone will be bacon-pimping their blog by tomorrow!
Saw it at swissmiss and couldn't resist! I obviously have to learn how to do that with, well, onions!!!

I just hope they keep it going, otherwise this entry will be rubbish in a while! 'ere: http://bacolicio.us/

under my (onion)skin

Nearly forgot to add this publication to the oniony theme of late.

I got acquainted with it some time ago via the same lovely, if slightly off her head, friend who kindly sent me the little onions necklace featured a few posts below!

She hadn't quite sussed out the real nature of the paper when she sent me the link. Apparently, she just thought of me and my wee nickname when she came across it online. Talk about obsessions... Ahem!
Me, I love its random fakeness. ¡¡Gracias, guapa!!

fingers crossed...

This is the b-day card (of sorts) I've just posted for a good friend back home. I'm a sucker for these quasi-retro prints!

She's moved house recently and I didn't have her new address so I looked her up on the white pages but, just in case, decided to give google maps a go too. (Yes, people at google, free advertising, not that you need any!!! Am I getting any free gadgets/widgets/whatever you call 'em in exchange? Nah, didn't think so!) Anyway, the swimming pool I saw on the satellite image looked familiar (I've only been in their new apartment once and yes, they have a swimming pool where they live! Some people, I know!) so... fingers crossed this is getting to the right place and on time (but in case it doesn't: "Moltes felicitats, reina!")

It's freezing cold out there, by the way. Just went out to do a couple of errands and post the card but no-one's getting me out of the house again today, I will resist any advances! (Unless, of course, they forcibly hoist me out with the help of a crane, that could possibly work...)
